Saint Peter and Saint Paul Cathedral (1712-33; architect: Domenico Tresini). This cathedral is the burial place of Russian emperors from Peter the Great (1672-1725, ruled since 1682) to Nicholas II (1868-1918, ruled 1894-1917). The spire of the cathedral (122.5 meters high; built in 1857-58: engineer: D. I. Zhuravsky), surmounted with a gilded angel, is the highest architectural dominant of Saint-Petersburg.
