City
St. Petersburg is among the most beautiful
cities in the world. It is located on more than 100 islands,
where the river Neva flows into the Gulf of Finland. The city
was founded in 1703 by the Tsar Peter I as a new capital of
the Russian Empire and kept this status till 1918. The city
has 4.6 million inhabitants and is the northernmost among
the world large cities. Its historic centre constitutes a
UNESCO World Heritage Site. June and early July in St. Petersburg is a period
of short and light nights called "White Nights"
and is the best time to visit the city.
Weather
The weather in July is mostly sunny with
usual temperatures between 17 and 23 °C. Rain is possible,
so we recommend you to pick up umbrellas and some warm clothing.
Workshop location
The Workshop will be held at the hotel "Moscow". This hotel is situated in the center of Saint-Petersburg, at the Sinopskaya embankment, next to the hystoric Saint Alexander Nevsky Monastery. The venue can be easily reached by subway lines 3/4, station "Ploschad' Aleksandra Nevskogo 1/2". The exit hall of the "Ploschad' Aleksandra Nevskogo 1" station is located just in the hotel building.

How to get here
By train from Moscow
For those participants who attend the Moscow International Symposium on Magnetism MISM-2017 we recommend the high-speed train connection between Moscow and St. Petersburg. The trains Sapsan depart several times per day from the railway station "Leningradsky vokzal" in the centre of Moscow and arrive to the railway station "Moskovsky vokzal" in the centre of St. Petersburg. Travel time is 4 hours.
To reach the Workshop venue from the railway station "Moskovsky vokzal" travel directly by metro (line 3) from the station "Mayakovskaya" to the next station "Ploschad' Aleksandra Nevskogo 1".
By plain
St. Petersburg's airport "Pulkovo" (LED) has direct connections to many large cities in Europe and to the most of the cities in Russia.
To reach the Workshop venue from the airport "Pulkovo" (LED) take a bus or a shuttle taxi to the metro station "Moskovskaja" (line 2). Take a metro train to travel to the station "Sennaya Ploschad". Change there to the line 4 (station "Spasskaya") and take a train to the station "Ploschad' Aleksandra Nevskogo 2".
You can also take a taxi from the airport to the Workshop venue. Please make sure to use only official taxi service available at service desks at the arrival hall, which provide the fixed ride fees. Please consult the website of the Pulkovo Airport for details.
