Highly obscured nonthermal hard X-ray sources

We discuss Chandra, XMM-Newton and INTEGRAL observations of highly obscured hard X-ray sources and their possible identifications. Theoretical models of compact accreting objects and supernova activity are discussed as the possible origins of the sources.
