Stability of non-ideal Couette flows is considered in the linear approximation. Instability conditions and instability properties are studied. The emphasis is made on the instability properties in presence of magnetic field and non-uniform density. Comparison of available theoretical and experimental data shows a good (within several percents) agreement for parameters of the instability.
