The St. Isaac Cathedral (1818-58; architect: August Montferrand) is the largest (101.5 meters high) cathedral of St. Petersburg.
Consecrated to St Isaac of Dalmatia, the Peter the Great's saint patron.

In summer days, when the weather is fine, one can admire the bird's-eye view of St Petersburg from the basement of the cathedral's colonnade, erected at the height of 43 m.

In the foreground of the photo, one sees one of the two columns (1845-46; architect: Carlo Rossi) surmounted with a statue of the Victory goddess (sculptor Ch. Rauch).
