The Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan (1801-11; architect: A. N. Voronikhin), situated in Nevsky Prospect, is regarded as a memorial to the heroes of the National (Russian - French) War of 1812. In the front of it, there are monuments (1837; sculptor: B. I. Orlovsky) to the outstanding Russian general M. B. Barklai-de-Tolli and the famous Russian Commander-in-Chief, Field-Marshal M. I. Kutuzov (the latter monument is seen in the foreground), who was buried in this cathedral in 1813.
